May 28, 2025- Emporia State student-athletes earned a total of nine All-American honors from the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) at the recently completed NCAA Division II National Championships held last week at Colorado State – Pueblo. The Hornets had six first-team and three second-team selections.
Emmanuel Dukpe was a two-time First-Team All-American honoree for Emporia State. He finished eighth with a time of 46.86 in the men's 400m and anchored the Hornets to an eighth place finish in a time of 3:08.73 in the men's 4x400m relay. He became the first Hornet to earn first-team All-American honors in the 400m since Luke Stenzel finished seventh in 2019. He ran 46.29 in the prelims to break Taysean Goodwin's Emporia State school record of 46.30 set at the 2018 NCAA Championships.
Dukpe joined
Bryson Turner,
Israel Domeh and
Braden Lipgens on the 4x400m relay. It was the first top eight finish by a Hornet 4x400m relay since the team of Brandon Rhone, Hayden Goodpaster, Parker Evans and Luke Stenzel placed sixth in 2019. In the prelims they broke their own school record by over a second. Turner led off with an unofficial 47.72 split followed by a 45.93 by Domeh. Lipgens ran a 47.58 on the third leg before
Dukpe cranked out a 45.18 final split for an Emporia State record 3:06.66 to advance to the finals. They broke their own record of 3:07.89 set at the Loper Twilight.
In a final that saw the top three finishers running under 10 seconds,
Ty Anderson ran 10.14 to finish seventh in the 100m for the Hornets top individual finish. It is the first First-Team All-American finish in the 100m for the Hornets since Josh Schuler placed second in 2011. In the prelims he ran 10.13 to break his own Emporia State school record of 10.17 set at this year's ESU Relays.
Anderson earned Second-Team All-American honors with a career best of 7.46m (24-5.75) to place 11th in the long jump. It is the first All-American honor in the long jump for the Hornet men since Donald Wilcox placed seventh in 2015 to earn First-Team honors.
Jonah Remsberg placed ninth in the decathlon with 6987 points to earn Second-Team All-American honors. He became the first Hornet to earn All-American honors in the decathlon since his coach
Payson Maydew finished third with 7,222 points at the 2015 National Championships.
Abigael Reid Harelson earned second-team All-American honors for the Emporia State women by placing 11th with a time of 1:00.14 in the 400m hurdles. She is the first Hornet to earn All-American honors in the women's 400m hurdles since Deandra Doubrava and Gillian Curtis-Masters finished 1-2 at the 1999 National Championships in Welch Stadium.
Student-athletes earned First-Team USTFCCCA All-American honors by virtue of finishing among the top-eight in their respective events – including as a member of a relay team – at the 2025 NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Championships this past weekend in Pueblo, Colo. Second-team selections were given to those athletes who finished in spots 9-12 in individual events. Ninth and tenth-place relay teams also earned the distinction.
The eight Hornet men earning All-American ranked third in the MIAA behind 21 from national champion Pittsburg State and ten from Northwest Missouri.
Emporia State sent a total of ten athletes to the NCAA Championships and all ten have at least one season of eligibility remaining. They could all take part in next year's National Championships on their home track as Emporia State's Welch Stadium and Witten Track will be the site of the 2026 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 21-23.
