Seven Emporia State Tennis Players Named Academic All-District

Four women and three men earn the honor from the College Sports Communicators

May 13, 2025-The Emporia State men's and women's tennis teams combined for seven Academic All-District honors as selected by College Sports Communicators. Diego Calvo, Gwendal Mazuay and Anton Sarunic for the men along with Perla Conde Vendrell, Anastasia Pesic, Paige Stranghoner and Sheriden Wichman were all named CSC Academic All-District for their work in the classroom.

Calvo holds a 3.72 GPA in business as a sophomore at Emporia State. He had a 10-6 mark in singles play during duals and was 17-9 overall.
 
Mazuay has a 3.92 GPA in information systems as a junior for the Hornets. He went 7-3 in singles dual play with a 15-5 overall record. He was ranked as high as #34 in the nation in doubles play this spring.
 
Sarunic has a 3.80 GPA in business in his junior season for the Hornets. He was 9-6 in dual action at the #1 spot and is 16-8 overall.  He ended his season ranked #23 in the nation in singles after being ranked as high as #13 earlier in the season.
 
Conde Vendrell has a 3.92 GPA in sociology and is a sophomore at Emporia State. She was named Second-Team All-MIAA in both singles and doubles this spring. She went 14-5 in singles dual play and was 19-10 overall this year.
 
Pesic graduated with a 4.00 GPA in business data analytics for the Hornets. She was 11-6 in singles play during duals and was 14-7 overall.
 
Stranghoner graduated with a 3.87 GPA in health and human performance from Emporia State. She was 11-8 in dual play singles and went 19-10 overall this year.
 
Wichman has a 3.97 GPA in biology in her junior season with the Hornets. In doubles play she went 13-4 in duals while going 19-7 overall with five different partners. She was 6-5 in singles play during duals with an 11-11 overall record.
 
To be nominated, student-athletes must be in the lineup for in a minimum of 70 percent of matches which were team scoring events with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 3, 2025 (women) and June 4, 2025 (men).

The Division II CSC Academic All-America® program is partially supported financially by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the program.
