Jonah Remsberg became just the second man to score 7,000 points in the decathlon to highlight Friday action for Emporia State Track & Field.
Remsberg had personal bests in the first three events of day two on his way to career best 7,033 points in the decathlon. He started with a time of 15.07 in the 110m hurdles and followed it by throwing 29.67m in the discus. He cleared a personal best 4.75m to win the pole vault portion of the competition. It is ited for the fifth best pole vault in Emporia State history. He followed that with a second place throw of 50.65m in the javelin. He ended the day placing third in the 1500m with a time of 4:46.13 to get him over the 7,000 point plateau. His 7,033 points earned him third place overall.
Luke Grace had a good start to day two of the decathlon with a personal best of 11.04 in the 110m hurdles but three fouled in the discus. He would clear 3.45m in the pole vault and threw the javelin 38.09m, but did not finish the 1500m and ended the competition with 5,501 points while scoring in just eight events.
Isabel Vikoler and
Scarlett Begley both had personal bests in the heptathlon at West Texas. They both had personal bests in the first two events of the day. Vikoler long jumped 5.55m and threw the javelin 20.60m while Begley went 5.35m in the long jump and 22.97m in the javelin as they were tied with 3,706 points after six events. In the final event Vikoler ran 2:35.13 to finish with a career high 4,336 points for an eighth place finish overall while Begley clocked in at 2:47.43 to score a personal best 4,197 points and finished in ninth place.
Emporia State's men's javelin group continued their strong season with three provisional qualifiers at the KT Woodman Classic.
Kole Manley finished second with a throw of 66.13m (216-11),
Brooks Lowe was fifth with a mark of 64.29m (210-11) while
Mitch Budke went 62.80m (206-0) to place eighth for the Hornets.
On the track
Cooper Schroer ran 1:52.77 to place 12
th in the men's 800m for the best finish on the track for the Emporia State men.
Emma Bartholome had the top finish on the track for the Hornet women with a time of 12:18.84 in the 3000m steeple chase.
The rest of the Hornets will be in action on Saturday at the KT Woodman Classic in Wichita.
