Box Score 2 March 14, 2025-Emporia State won two more games in Florida on Saturday to reach the 20 win mark on the season. The Hornets came from behind to defeat Shepherd 4-3 before run-ruling Wayne State (Mich.) in their second game.
Emporia State 4, Shepherd 3
Emporia State overcame a three run deficit with four runs in the sixth inning of a 4-3 win over Shepherd in game one.
The Rams scored one in the top of the first on a single and triple but the Hornets got out of it as
Jordan Harrison got at strikeout and then threw out a runner trying to score from third on a squeeze bunt. Shepherd picked up an unearned run in the third when a Ram reached on a two out error and came home on a double. A bases loaded ground out in the sixth gave the Rams a 3-0 lead headed to the bottom of the sixth.
After being held to six base runners through the first five innings, the first five Hornets to come to the plate reached base in the bottom of the sixth.
Sydney Wagner led off with a single and went to second on a single by
Mallory Moore.
Ally Miller reached on a fielder's choice to put runners on the corners for
Juliana De Luna who delivered a two run single to center.
Brooke Flewelling followed with a single through the left side. After a fly out
Haley Garnett put the Hornets in front with a two RBI single to right field.
Harrison retired the Rams on four pitches in the top of the seventh for the win.
Juliana De Luna was two for three with two RBI and a run scored for the Hornets while Harrison went the distance in the circle allowing three runs on nine hits with eight strikeouts.
Emporia State 12, Wayne State (Mich.) 0 (5 innings)
The Hornets scored three runs in the top of the first and never looked back in a 12-0 run rule win over Wayne State (Mich.) in their second game.
Emporia State got three runs on three hits and an error in the first with
Mallory Moore getting the only RBI of the frame on a single with one out. The Hornets exploded for seven runs in the top of the third inning. A
Sydney Wagner two run triple and a
Brooke Flewelling two run home run were the big blows in the inning.
Kennedy Topping added and RBI double and
Addyson Easter had an RBI single in the fifth to wrap up the scoring for the Hornets.
Gracie Rabe went the distance in the circle allowing just one hit in 5.0 innings.
The Hornets will wrap up their trip to Florida on Sunday with games against Saint Michaels and Purdue Northwest at the Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex in Leesburg, Fla.
