Hornet Volleyball Comes in at No. 25 in Latest AVCA Coaches Poll

First national ranking since 2011 for Emporia State

October 20, 2025 - For the first time since 2011, Emporia State volleyball is ranked in the latest edition of the AVCA Coaches Poll. The Hornets come in at #25 in the nation following their fourth consecutive weekend sweep in MIAA action, beating #24 Central Missouri in five sets and then sweeping Missouri Southern in their last time out. 

Emporia State is now 17-3 overall, and 8-1 in the MIAA, with three of their eight wins in conference play being ranked wins. The three ranked wins for the Hornets marks the first time since 2009 that Emporia State has defeated multiple ranked opponents in the same season. Their second ranked win of the season, over then #2 Nebraska-Kearney, marked the highest ranked win in program history, as the Hornets swept the Lopers. 

In the latest AVCA poll, the MIAA has three teams ranked in the top seven, with five in total ranked in the top 25. The Central Region continue to proves difficult, with 12 teams ranked between both the MIAA and NSIC. 

The Hornets next match will be on Friday, October 24 as they travel up I-35 for the second edition of the Turnpike Tussle against #2 Washburn.
