October 17, 2025 – Emporia State volleyball outlasted #24 Central Missouri on Friday night in five sets, marking their third ranked win of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets and Jennies traded points in the early part of set one, but Central Missouri eventually gained control on their way to a 25-19 set one win in which the visitors hit .519.
Central Missouri continued their momentum through the first half of set two, leading the Hornets 12-8. The Hornets found their way back to tie the frame 21-21, and after two points by the Jennies to make the score 23-21, Emporia State scored three straight to set up set point. Central Missouri held off a trio of set points by the Hornets before a pair of errors gave the Hornets a 28-26 win in the second.
Emporia State controlled most of set three, rolling to a 25-18 win, and taking the 2-1 advantage in the match. Set four was a back-and-forth battle between the Hornets and Jennies, with neither team leading by more than three points throughout. Central Missouri was able to pull out the fourth set 25-23 over Emporia State, forcing a decisive fifth set.
In the fifth, Emporia State grabbed the momentum immediately, jumping out to a 5-1 lead, which eventually swelled to 9-3 following the sides switching. The Jennies mounted a rally, scoring five of the next six to trim the Hornet lead to 10-8. The Hornets answered the rally, scoring five of the final seven points to close out the set 15-10, sealing their third ranked win of the season and moving to 16-3 overall and 7-1 in the MIAA.
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Emporia State hit .234 in the match, with four Hornets posting double-digit kills.
Lavra Krizanic had a team-high 16, while
Nyia Anderson,
Camilla Ossola and
Emma Klett posting 15, 12 and 10 respectively. Klett was extremely efficient, recording a .476 hitting percentage. Both Krizanic and Anderson posted double-doubles with 14 and 18 digs each.
Brailee Bogle and
Delainee Dexter combined for 59 assists, helping the Hornets to a season-high 65 in the match.
