Hornet Volleyball Falls at #2 Washburn

October 24, 2025-Emporia State gave up 12 service aces in a 3-0 loss at #2 Washburn on Friday night in Whiting Fieldhouse in Topeka.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets gave up five aces and only hit .100 in the opening set as the Ichabods won 25-17.  Washburn scored the first three points and would never trail in the set.
Emporia State increased their hitting to .214 in the second set but were again aced five times at Washburn won 25-15 to take a two set lead. The teams split the first six points before WU used a 7-3 run to take the lead in the set for good.
There were seven ties and three lead changes in the final set before the Ichabods pulled out a 25-23 victory. The Hornets got out to a 4-1 lead to start the third set but an 8-3 run gave the Ichabods a 20-17 lead. Emporia State staved off two match points before Sydney Buscher got a kill to end the match.
 
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Emma Klett led Emporia State with ten kills on .471 hitting as the Hornets shot .259 as a team. ESU surrendered 12 aces in the match, the most since giving up 13 in five sets against Ouachita Baptist on September 19.
