Emporia State men tied for first, women in second after day one

April 3, 2024-After day one of singles play at the Collegiate Disc Golf National Championships the Emporia State Men's DI team is tied for first place while the Hornet Women's Black team is tied for second place.
 
Emporia State is the only team to have two athletes in the top 16 of men's DI singles play.  Isaiah Esquivel is in eighth place at even par while TJ Reel is 11th at one over par after the first round of singles play.  Justin Farrell is in 23rd at +3 while Cade Kohlmeier shot +7 to sit in 71st place.  The foursome combined to go +3 after the singles team competition and are tied with Cincinnati for first place, one stroke ahead of NC State and UNC-Charlotte.
 
The DI men's teams will move on to team competition on Thursday morning with the Hornets set to tee off with the Bearcats at 11:20 am (ET) in the last team card of the morning.  Esquivel and Reel will both compete in the nine-hole singles final in the afternoon with Reel set to tee off at 3:57 pm (ET) and Esquivel at 4:06 pm (ET).  Thursday's DI competition will take place at Winthrop Lakefront Course.
 
Atlanta Krueger was one of three women to shoot under par in the singles competition as she went two under to finish third. She was tied with Kelly White of North Carolina after the first 18 holes.  With two holes to go in the nine-hole final Krueger, White and Genesis Beck of North Carolina State were all tied at -3. White birded the second to last hole while Beck parred it and Krueger bogeyed the par five 17th hole to set up the final score.
 
Maya Ringgold was 25th at +8 while Rebekah Thompson shot +14 to place 42nd and Sydney Snowden was in 45th place, one stroke back.
 
Krueger and Ringgold combined for a +3 for the ESU Black squad in the team competition. They are tied for second with Clemson one stroke behind Liberty headed into Thursday's team competition. Thompson and Snowden combined to score +15 to put the ESU Gold team in 18th place overall.  The Gold team will tee off at 9:20 am (ET) while the Black team will tee off on the lead card at 10:40 am (ET) on Thursday at Westminster Park West.
 
The DII men started play in the A Division with team competition.  The foursome of Abram Brazzle, Caden Stucky, Zachary Dyer and Grant Yoder shot -7 and are tied for 20th going into Thursday's single play. The first singles player for the Hornets will tee off at 10:30 am (ET) at Camp Canaan Riverbend.
