Multi-events and hammer throw contested on Thursday

April 11, 2024-Day one of the Midwest Classics is in the books and Emporia State had three top eight finishers and have three in the top three of the multi-events.
 
Luke Grace is second with 3492 points after five events in the men's decathlon. He had the top mark in the high jump and was second in the 100m and long jump.  Aren Trost is in third with 3333 points. He had the top mark in the shot put and was second in the 400m.
 
Isabel Viloker is in third place with 2,592 points after four events in the women's heptathlon.  She was second in both track events  - the 100m hurdles and 200m.  Emporia State's Scarlett Begley had the top mark in the high jump portion of the competition and is in seventh with 2197 points after day one.
 
In the only finals contested on Thursday Madison Vermetten placed fifth and Kyra Ohl was eighth in the women's hammer while Ian McClure finished seventh in the men's hammer.  Vermetten threw 46.69m (153-2) while Ohl went 43.71m (143-5) for the Hornets.  McClure had a throw of 44.01m (144-4) for the men.
 
Action will be back underway starting at 9:30 a.m. on Friday with the men's decathlon 110m hurdles.  The women's heptathlon is set to begin at 10:00 a.m. with the long jump.  Overall field events will begin at 11:30 a.m. and mani track running events at 1:00 p.m. at Welch Stadium.
 
NOTES:
There was one meet record broken on Thursday.  Neb.-Kearney's Alex Goracke threw 58.55m (192-1) to break the previous record of 55.68m (182-8) set last year by Missouri Valley's Gerrit Visser.
