March 2, 2024-Both the #2 ranked Emporia State men's and women's disc golf teams are in the lead heading into Sunday's final round action at the Mid-American Regional Championships in Emporia. The Hornet's D1 team of
Isaiah Esquivel,
Justin Farrell,
Cade Kohlmeier and
TJ Reel are at -14 to hold a one stroke lead on #11 Oklahoma Christian. While the duo of
Atlanta Krueger and
Maya Ringgold have a seven stroke lead over #7 Oklahoma Christian in the women's competition.

Playing at Peter Pan Park the women took a five stroke lead after the singles competition. Krueger shot +2 to win the individual title by one stroke over Camille Schlegel of Oklahoma Christian. She had four birdies in the round while only three other players had one. Ringgold was in third at +12 to give Emporia State a +7 score for the team competition.
In the team round in the afternoon, Krueger and Riggold were the only pair to shoot under par, going one under for the round to move to +6 for the tournament. They birdied #9 and #11 and picked up a bogey on #4 while playing even par on the other 15 holes. Schlegel and Evie Munn went +1 in the round with birdies on #8 and #11 to go with bogeys on #2, #5, and #13 to set at +13 going into Sunday's final round.   The Hornets second team of
Rebekah Thompson and
Sydney Snowden is in fourth place at +26, just two strokes out of third, headed into Sunday. Â
Thompson and Snowden will tee off at 9:12 a.m. at the Champions Landing course with Krueger and Ringgold set to tee of on the lead card with Oklahoma Christian's Schlegel and Munn at 9:24 a.m.

The Emporia State men had five players in the top 16 of the men's singles competition at Jones Park East.
TJ Reel was in third at -7 while D1 teammates
Isaiah Esquivel and
Justin Farrell were tied for eighth at -3.
Grant Yoder of the Hornets D2 team was 13
th at -2 while D1 player
Cade Kohlmeier was tied for 16
th at -1.  Henry Bente of Oklahoma Christian took the top spot in singles play with a -9 but none of the other Eagles shot below par. Missouri's Quentin Borengasser was third at -8 in the singles play.
Emporia State started the team round at Champions Landing with a two stroke lead over Oklahoma Christian but gave back two strokes with a double bogey on their first hole, #16 in the team competition. They quickly got the two strokes back with a birdie on #17 and an eagle on #18 to get back to three under. They took control shooting -7 on holes three through ten to go to -9 for the round. They finished up with birdies on three of their final four holes to sit at -14 under headed into the final round. Oklahoma Christian shot -12 on the round to go to -13 for the tournament, just one stroke behind the Hornets.
Emporia State's D2 team of
Abram Brazzle,
Caden Stucky, Sachary Dyer and
Grant Yoder is in sixth place at -7, just three strokes out of third place.
The first of 32 men's teams is set to tee off at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday at Champions Landing. The Hornets D2 team will tee off at 1:12 p.m. while the lead card of Emporia State D1 and Oklahoma Christian is set to tee off at 1:36 p.m.
