March 13, 2024 – Anton Sarunic was named the MIAA/GAC Men's Tennis North Division Athlete of the Week following his performance for Emporia State last week.
 
Sarunic led Emporia State to two wins last week, including their first win over a Top 20 team in their NCAA era.  He was 2-0 at #1 singles and 1-1 at #1 doubles.  
 
At William Jewell, he teamed with Mostafa Elbasnaly to win 7-6 (7-3) at #1 doubles and then won 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) at #1 singles as the Hornets defeated the Cardinals 6-1 in Liberty, Mo.  Against #19 Lubbock Christian he and Elbasnaly lost in a tie breaker 7-6 (7-5) at #1 doubles before Sarunic came back to win 6-1, 6-1 against #61 Tristan Vigneron at #1 singles to lead the Hornets to the 4-3 win over the Chaps in Altamonte Springs, Fla.  
 
Sarunic is currently ranked #50 in the nation in singles play and is the fifth highest rated MIAA player.
 
Emporia State's next action will be on Thursday, March 14 in Orlando. Fla. as the Hornets take on Lehigh.
