Hornet Tennis Falls to Nationally Ranked Florida Southern Squads

Emporia State men drop 6-1 decision to #8 Mocs, Women fall 7-0 at #11 FSC

March 20, 2026-Emporia State were swept by nationally ranked Florida Southern on Friday afternoon to finish up their Florida Spring Break trip.

The Hornet men got a win in singles and took two other matches to a third set before falling to the #8 Mocs at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. on Friday afternoon.
Florida Southern won all three doubles matches with Hornets Roko Kacer and Dhruveer Grover falling in a third set tiebreaker.
FSC won in straight sets at #4-6 singles but the #1-3 singles matches all went to a third set. Mostafa Elbasnaly fell 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 to #8 Mario Garoz at #1 and Luke West lost 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 to Mehmet Onur Turgut before Diego Calvo came from behind to post a 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 win at #2 singles over Matthew Hewitt.
 
#11 Florida Southern Women 7, Emporia State 0
The Emporia State women dropped their third straight dual to a nationally ranked swaud as they fell 7-0 at Florida Southern on Friday afternoon.
The Hornets dropped all three doubles matches with Yuliya Klimova and Carla Paul Piquer falling 6-4 to #49 Kennedi Brown and Josie Holderbach at the #1 spot.
The Mocs then swept the singles play with Limova taking Ronja Scheuermann to a tiebreaker in the first set before falling 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 at the #2 position.
 
UP NEXT
The Hornet men will return to action on March 26 against Sterling in the Kossover Family Tennis Center.  The Hornet women jump into MIAA play on March 27 against #50 Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Okla.
 
NOTES
Five of the six combined duals in Florida were against nationally ranked NCAA Division II teams.
