February 19, 2024 – Emporia State swept the MIAA Softball weekly awards as
Alexis Dial was named MIAA Hitter of the Week while
Jayda VanAckeren earned MIAA Pitcher of the Week honors.
Alexis Dial was named the MIAA Hitter of the week following her performance in the first three games of the ESU Classic. Dial hit .727 over the three games, recording three consecutive multi-hit games. Dial totaled eight hits, nine RBI, two home runs, four runs scored and two stolen bases in the first three home games of the season for Emporia State. Her four RBI against Wayne State in game one of the ESU Classic matched her career high.
Jayda VanAckeren was named MIAA Pitcher of the Week following a complete-game shutout against Wayne State on Sunday in the ESU Classic. VanAckeren hurled seven shutout innings against the Wildcats and allowed just three hits while adding two strikeouts. The performance against Wayne State was VanAckeren's third career shutout and was her third win in the circle this season.
Emporia State wrapped up the ESU Classic on Monday with wins over UMary and Sioux Falls. The Hornets return to action on February 23-25 as they travel to Topeka, Kan. for the Washburn Classic. The first game of the tournament is scheduled for Friday, February 23 at 10:00 a.m. against Minot State.
