Three provisionals for Emporia State on day two of MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships

February 25, 2023-Emporia State had five scorers and three provisional qualifiers on Saturday at the MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Pittsburg, Kan.
 
Brandon Wilkes and Aren Trost got things started on a positive note for the Hornets in the morning multi-events.  Wilkes placed sixth with a provisional qualifying score of 4,749 points.  Trost also picked up points for Emporia State as he scored 4,634 points to place seventh.
 
Alyssa Conway moved up to third on the Emporia State all-time list in the women's weight throw.  She had a provisional qualifying mark of 55-11.75 (17.09m) to place eighth.
 
Fresh off of setting a school record last week in the pole vault, Megan McManis had another provisional qualifier at the championships. She cleared 12-7.25 (3.84m) to place fifth in an event that saw the top seven finishers hit a provisional mark.
 
Grace Jacobs was the other scorer for the Emporia State women. She cleared 5-4.25 (1.63m) to place seventh in the high jump.
 
The Hornets just missed scoring or qualifying for finals in four events.  After scoring a provisional qualifier on Friday I the pentathlon, Abigael Reid just missed the final in the 600 yard run. She ran 1:25.50 to place ninth in the prelims. Xavier Hall was ninth in a time of 8.26 in the men's 60m hurdles to miss the finals by one spot.
 
In finals on Saturday the women's distance medley relay team of Tayler Williams, Makenzie Owings, Mason Bina and Hannah Showalter ran 12:43.35 to place ninth. Chloe Thakker also just missed scoring as she cleared 5-3.00 (1.60m) to place ninth in the women's high jump. 
 
The final day of the MIAA Championships will begin at noon on Sunday with the men's shot put while running events will begin at 1:30 p.m. with the women's mile run.
