December 9, 2022-Emporia State opened the 2022 indoor track and field season at the Boo Rogers Combined Multi-Events competition on Friday in Pittsburg, Kan.

For the Hornet women
Abigael Reid earned a provisional qualifying mark in the pentathlon to highlight day one for Emporia State. She scored 3,337 points to finish 12th out of 30 finishers in the five event competition. She ran an indoor personal best of 2:22.18 in the final event of the day, the 800m, to move two spots and hit the provisional mark

Victoria Pettay was 19th overall with 3,018 points to finish just 16 points shy of her personal best in the event. She had a personal best of 9.76m in the shot put.

On the men's side
Brandon Wilkes is in the top half of the 26 person field with 2,712 points after the first day of competition. He tied his personal best in the high jump, clearing 1.86m. His best place finish in an individual event was fourth with a mark of 12.95m in the shot put. He will finish up the pentathlon with the final three events on Saturday.

The rest of the Hornet track & field team will be competing later in the day on Saturday at the Crimson & Gold Invitational at the Plaster Center. in Pittsburg
