INTO THE MIDLAND EMPIRE
Emporia State returns to MIAA play against Northwest Missouri and Missouri Western this weekend.

LAST AT BAT
Emporia State was swept by Rockhurst on Wednesday night in non-conference softball action.  The Hornets lost 13-2 in game one and 3-0 in game two.
Rockhurst sent 14 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first and scored nine runs to take control early in the matinee.  
The Hornets were held to just one hit in the second game as Rockhurst completed the sweep with a 3-0 win in the nightcap.   After Gabby Biondo's single in the first, Lexi Storrer retired the final 19 Hornet batters and struck out the side in the seventh to end the game.
 
THE COACHES
April Huddleston-Rosales is 142-137 in her sixth year as the head coach at Emporia State. She served as an assistant for seven seasons. She was a member of both the Hornets national runner-up teams in 2006 and 2008. She is 9-1 against Northwest Missouri and 5-6 against the Griffons as a head coach.
Ryan Anderson is 334-321 in his 15th year at Northwest Missouri and 448-395 in his 19th year as a head coach.  He is 5-25 against Emporia State.
Jen Bagley Trotter is 665-391 in her 20th season as head coach at Mo. Western. She is 20-42 against Emporia State.

ABOUT THE HORNETS
The Hornets are 13-11 on the year, 3-3 in the MIAA. They are batting .272 with a 3.70 team ERA and .967 fielding percentage. Roni Raines is second in the MIAA with a .534 on-base percentage and seventh in batting with a .411 average. Emma Furnish is tied for second in triples with three and is tenth with 19 runs. Kelsey Phillips is eighth in the MIAA with a 2.23 ERA.

Northwest Missouri is 7-9, 1-3 in the MIAA. They are batting .269 with a 5.92 team ERA. Kaitlyn Weis is leading the MIAA with a .860 slugging percentage and is fourth with a .500 on base percentage.
Missouri Western is 16-6, 5-1 in the MIAA. They are batting .293 with a league best 1.82 ERA. Sydni Hawkins is leading the MIAA with a .514 batting average and .539 on base percentage while ranking second in slugging percentage and runs scored.

LAST AT BATS
Emporia State defeated Northwest Missouri 10-0 on April 26, 2019 in Maryville.
Missouri Western defeated Emporia State 5-3 on May 4, 2019 in the MIAA Tourney.
