ON A BREAK
Emporia State takes a break from MIAA action as they play host to William Jewell in a mid-week spring break double header at the Trusler Sports Complex.

LAST AT BAT
The Hornets swept Missouri Southern on Saturday at Trusler, winning the matinee 9-1 in five innings before taking the nightcap 4-2. Rachel Kauss was three for five with two RBI and five runs scored in the double header.  Sydney Righi and Kerrigan Dixon both picked up complete game victories in the circle.

THE COACHES
April Huddleston-Rosales is 128-125 in her fifth year as the head coach at Emporia State. She served as an assistant for seven seasons. She was a member of both the Hornets national runner-up teams in 2006 and 2008. She is 4-3 against William Jewell.
Dustin Combs is 370-307 in his 14th year at William Jewell. He is 4-5 against Emporia State.

ABOUT THE HORNETS
As a team the Hornets lead the league in stolen bases, are sixth in the MIAA in batting average at .294, rank eighth with a 3.30 team ERA and are sixth in fielding with a .962 fielding percentage while leading the league in double plays.  Hannah Steeby is leading the MIAA in home runs and stolen bases and ranks in the top ten in batting average, slugging percentage, on base percentage, hits, RBI, and runs scored. In the circle Sydney Righi is 5-4 with a 2.65 ERA while Kerrigan Dixon is 6-0 with two saves.

SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
William Jewell is 9-7 on the year and are 5-2 against MIAA teams this year. They are batting .270 as a team with a 3.52 team ERA and .963 fielding percentage. Abby Dubinski is batting .400 on the year with a team high ten RBI. Sarah Lewis has a team high ten appearances and is 4-4 with a 3.88 ERA while Kenzie Jones is 4-1 with a 2.58 ERA.

SERIES HISTORY
Emporia State leads the all-time series 6-5 with nine of the 11 meetings coming in the last six years.

LAST AT BAT WITH WILLIAM JEWELL
In the final non-conference games of the regular season Emporia State managed a split at William Jewell in Liberty, Mo.  The Hornets won the matinee 5-4 and fell 7-5 in the nightcap.
In the first game Hannah Steeby tied the game with a two RBI homer to highlight a five run sixth inning. Brittanie Shepherd gave Emporia State the lead with a two run double later in the inning.
In the second game it was William Jewell with the five run inning as they scored five in the fourth inning on the way to a 7-5 victory. Brylie Bassett was three for three with three RBI in the game for Emporia State.

ON DECK
The Hornets have a four game Turnpike Tussle on tap this weekend beginning with two games in Emporia on Friday afternoon.  First pitch of the double header is set for 2:00 p.m.  The teams will meet on Saturday in Topeka with first pitch of the non-conference double header set for 1:00 p.m.

THE HORNETS WITH ROSALES
Rosales is in her fifth season as head coach at Emporia State. She holds an 128-125 overall record, 54-50 in the MIAA. She led the Hornets to the 2018 MIAA Tournament championship and her first trip to the NCAA Central Regional Tournament as head coach. Emporia State then advanced to the Central Regional championship game before falling to Minnesota-Duluth.  
In 2017, Rosales made her first appearance in the MIAA Tournament as head coach, finishing second, losing to #1 seed Central Oklahoma in the championship game. It was the Hornets first MIAA Tournament championship appearance since 2013.
Before accepting the head coaching role, she had served as an assistant coach for the Hornets the previous seven seasons after her all-conference playing career at Emporia State.

HORNET HISTORY
Emporia State has finished as the NCAA Division II National Runners-up twice, in 2006 and 2008. The Hornets have qualified for NCAA Regional play in 12 of the last 16 years and 13 times in the last 24 seasons. The Hornets won the NAIA National Championship in 1983 and 1984 and won the AIAW National Championship in 1980.
