The Hornets travel to Pueblo, Colo. for a four game series against the Thunderwolves.

LAST AT BAT
Emporia State opened the season 3-0 for the first time since 2015 as they defeated Pittsburg State 6-0, Southwestern Oklahoma 7-2 and Henderson State 9-3 at the Edmond First Pitch Classic.  Hornet starting pitching gave up just three earned runs and nine hits while striking out 15 in 15.0 innings while the bullpen allowed just one run on six hits in 12.0 innings.  
Offensively Emporia State scored 22 runs with five homers and ten doubles. Blake Carroll hit .545 with three home runs and eight RBI in the three games in Edmond.

THE COACHES
Seth Wheeler is 30-22 in his second season as the Hornets head coach. This will be his first meeting with CSU-Pueblo.
Stan Sanchez  is 861-575-1 in his 27th season at CSU-Pueblo. He is 3-5 against Emporia State.

ABOUT THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 3-0 on the season. As a team they lead the MIAA with a 1.67 ERA, are ranked fifth in the league with a .975 fielding percentage and are seventh with a .268 batting average and are second with a .526 slugging percentage. Blake Carroll leads the MIAA in home runs, is second in slugging percentage and third in RBI

SCOUTING THE THUNDERWOLVES
This is the season opening series for CSU-Pueblo.  They went 26-25 last year with a 21-15 record in the RMAC. The Pack was slated to finish sixth in the RMAC preseason poll this year with Easton Adler, Rion Santamaria, and Aidan Welch named Players to Watch.

SERIES HISTORY
The Hornets lead the all-time series 5-3. This is the third time in five years the two programs have played early season series and the first since 2017.

LAST TIME AGAINST CSU-PUEBLO
After scoring 35 runs in their first two games, #30 Emporia State were held to three runs in a 4-3 loss at Colorado State Pueblo in 2017.  The Hornets left 11 runners on base including the tying and go ahead run in the ninth inning. The Hornets had some one on base in every inning but the third, with a runner in scoring position in each of the final six innings. Tate Kastens was two for four with an RBI. Wade Hanna finished one for four with two RBI while Ryan McRoom, Mason Brown and David Oropeza all scored a run.  Jordan Plank took the loss allowing three runs, two of them earned in 4.1 innings pitched with four hits and one strikeout.

UP NEXT
The Hornets will return to Colorado for a four game series at Metro State February 14-15 in Denver. They will play one game on Friday, two Saturday and one game on Sunday.
