UP THE TURNPIKE
Emporia State is set to play six games in Topeka this weekend at the WU Classic.

THE COACHES
April Huddleston-Rosales is 121-122 in her fifth year as the head coach at Emporia State. She served as an assistant for seven seasons. She was a member of both the Hornets national runner-up teams in 2006 and 2008. She is 2-2 against USF, 1-1 against UMSL, 4-0 against SCSU, 1-0 against SMSU and these are her first meetings with RU and UMC.
Shannon Pivovar is 28-33 in her second year at USF. She is 0-1 against ESU.
Amanda Scott is 115-63 in her fourth year at UMSL. She is 1-1 against Emporia State.
Paula U'Ren is 730-485 in her 23rd year at SCSU. She is 2-9 against Emporia State.
Bailey Wittenauer is 46-56 in her third year at Rockhurst. This is her first meeting with ESU.
Travis Owen is 19-47 in his second year at UMC. This is his first meeting with ESU.
Bailey Bouman  is 19-26 in her second year at SMSU. This is her first meeting with ESU.

LAST WEEK
The Hornets went 3-1 at their own 5-State Classic at the Trusler Sports Complex.

ABOUT THE HORNETS
As a team the Hornets are sixth in the MIAA in batting average at .296, seventh with a 2.85 team ERA and fourth in fielding with a .963 fielding percentage.  Hannah Steeby is leading the MIAA with five home runs and ranks fifth with 17 RBI. Abby Ward is leading the MIAA with 12 stolen bases. In the circle Sydney Righi is 3-1 and ranked eighth in the MIAA with a 1.64 ERA.

KNOW THE FOE
Sioux Falls is 4-3 on the year. They are 2-1 against the MIAA with the lone loss to ESU.
Mo.-St. Louis is 3-5 with a win against MIAA member Pittsburg State.
St. Cloud State is 5-0 after winning five games at their own dome tournament.
Rockhurst is 5-1 including a doubleheader sweep of MIAA member Newman.
Minn.-Crookston is 6-6 on the year and will be playing outdoors for the first time this year.
Southwest Minnesota is opening the season this weekend and were 19-26 last year.

ON DECK
The Hornets open MIAA play against Pittsburg State on March 6. First pitch at Trusler is set for 2:00 p.m.
