IT'S STILL EARLY
Emporia State travels to Bentonville, Ark. to take part in the Alvy Early Memorial Classic. The Hornets will play Quincy, Henderson State, Harding and Southwest Baptist.

THE COACHES
April Huddleston-Rosales is 115-120 in her fifth year as the head coach at Emporia State. She served as an assistant for seven seasons. She was a member of both the Hornets national runner-up teams in 2006 and 2008. She is 1-1 against Quincy, 0-5 against Henderson State, 1-3 against Harding and 4-4 against Southwest Baptist.
Carla Passini is 80-106 in her fifth year as head coach at Quincy. She is 1-1 against Emporia State.
Beth Jackson is 301-311 in her 12th year as head coach at Henderson State. She is 5-4 against Emporia State.
Phil Berry is 222-143 in his seventh year as head coach at Harding. He is 3-3 against Emporia State.
Dalton Kelly is 8-52 in his second year as head coach at Southwest Baptist. He is 2-0 against Emporia State.

LAST WEEK
The Hornets went 2-3 at the Mankato Dome Classic in Minnesota. Overall Emporia State had a better batting average, ERA and fielding percentage than their opponents during the five games in the dome.

ABOUT THE HORNETS
As a team the Hornets are third in the MIAA in batting average at .319, third in fielding with a .960 fielding percentage and fifth with a 3.60 team ERA.
Emporia State had three players hit over .400 on the opening weekend. Rachel Kauss hit .500 with a team high five RBI, Hannah Steeby hit .412 with two home runs and four RBI while Abbey Ward hit .400 with a team high six runs scored.
In the circle Kelsey Phillips was 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA in 12.00 innings while Kerrigan Dixon was 1-0 with a save and a 3.38 ERA in 8.0 innings.

KNOW THE FOE
Quincy is opening their season in Bentonville after going 25-23 last season.
Henderson State is 3-5 this year with three of their losses coming to top 25 teams. They were 25-31 a year ago.
Harding is 5-3 on the season having gone 1-2 against nationally ranked teams. They were 35-23 last season.
Southwest Baptist is 0-5 on the year with two of the losses against top 15 schools. They were 8-47 last season.

ON DECK
The Hornets will welcome ten teams to the Trusler Sports Complex next weekend for the ESU Five State Classic. Action begins at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 21.
