Emporia State continues non-conference play as the Hornets travel to St. Charles, Mo to take on two teams from the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Hornets play Missouri S&T on Friday, Sept. 7 at 2:30 p.m. followed by Drury on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 1:30 p.m.
THE COACHES
Bryan Sailer is 50-62-20 beginning his eighth year at Emporia State and is the winningest coach in program history. He has a career record of 109-85-22 that includes coaching four years at the community college level.
Joe McCauley is in his ninth season as the head coach of the women's soccer team at Missouri S&T.
Alf Bilbao is in his 13th season as the head coach for the Drury women's soccer team.
LAST TIME OUT
The Hornets took the lead 1-0 in the 27th minute when Kennedy Hoffman sent a cross from the right side to Jacki Martinek for her first goal of the season. Later in the first half the Hornets extended their lead to 2-0 over the Tigers when Emily Goodrow sent a cross from Gaby Crowell into the back of the net in the 42nd minute of the match.
ABOUT THE HORNETS
Emporia State started the season 2-0-0 in the MIAA/GAC Challenge. The Hornets defeated Harding 3-1 and Ouachita Baptist 2-0. The Hornets had five different players score the five goals on the weekend. Jacki Martinek and Kennedy Hoffman lead the Hornets each with one goal and one assist while Tanna Benefiel, Emily Goodrow and Rachel Marshall each add one goal. Jillian Patton has played all 180 minutes in goal with one shutout and nine saves.
ABOUT MISSOURI S&T
Missouri S&T started the season 0-1-0 after falling 1-0 to Christian Brothers. The Miners outshot the Bucs 17-10 in the match while each team took five corner kicks. The Miners have an experienced line-up that includes 11 juniors and seven seniors to help lead the way. In goal, Kristen Steins played all 90 minutes in goal with six saves.
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the tenth meeting between the Hornets and the Miners. The Hornets lead the series 5-4-0.
ABOUT DRURY
Drury started the season 0-1-1 after a tie with Christian Brothers and falling to Missouri Southern. The Panthers have been outshot by opponents 51-16. Katie Cole and Brinn Cooper lead the Panthers each with one goal. Sarah Franks has played 200 minutes in goal with 13 saves.
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the fourth meeting between the Hornets and the Panthers. Drury leads the all-time series 2-1-0.
LAST TIME AGAINST DRURY
Drury opened the scoring with a penalty kick goal in the 30th minute by Mariah Gove. The Hornets tied the game at one goal apiece with a Hannah Carlson penalty kick 11 minutes into the second half. The Panthers out shot the Hornets 19-9 and nine to five in shots on goal, however Emporia State had six corner kicks to just three for Drury. Goalkeeper Yadira Rivera had seven saves for the Hornets.
