ROAD TESTS KICK OFF OCTOBER
Emporia State soccer travels to take on #4 Pittsburg State and Central Oklahoma this weekend.

LAST TIME OUT
The Hornets played their first road contest of the MIAA slate last Sunday, as they traveled to Tahlequah to take on Northeastern State. Both Emporia State and the Riverhawks were unable to find a breakthrough over the course of 90 minutes as the teams played to a 0-0 draw. Emporia State managed to outshoot Northeastern State 17-11 in the match, forcing seven saves the Riverhawk goalkeeper. On the defensive side, the shutout marked the Hornets' second consecutive shutout and fourth straight match allowing one goal or fewer.

ABOUT THE COACHES
Jane Grimley-Gunn is in year three at Emporia State in 2026 and has a 20-16-10 record with the Hornets.
Wes Branstetter
is in year three leading the Pittsburg State program and has a 22-12-4 record leading the Gorillas.
Amel Muhamedagic is in year three leading the Bronchos and has a 27-16-11 record at Central Oklahoma.

TOP GUNN
Jane Grimley-Gunn is in year two at the helm of Hornet Soccer and is 20-16-10. Grimley-Gunn spent the previous two seasons as the head coach for Missouri S&T's women's program. In 2023, the Miners had their longest unbeaten streak to start a season since 1997 and made a trip to the GLVC Tournament for the fourth time in school history. Prior to her time in Rolla, Grimley-Gunn was the associate head coach at her alma mater Goldey-Beacom College for four years. In those four seasons, the Lightning went 48-24-4. She was also named a recipient of the "30 under 30" award by the United Soccer Coaches in 2019. 

A LOOK AT THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 5-2-2 through their first nine matches of the season and have started 2-0-1 in the MIAA with wins over Nebraska-Kearney and Fort Hays State before playing to a draw at Northeastern State last week. Emporia State is led in attack by Ella Favot and Megan Kephart who both have five goals this season and Favot has added five assists, putting her second in the MIAA with 15 total points. In addition to Favot and Kephart, Avery Zimmerman, Ava Huston and Amy Paver have all added multiple goals so far this season.

SCOUTING THE GORILLAS
Pittsburg State is 9-0-1 this season with their last match being their lone draw of the season, a 0-0 result against Central Oklahoma. The Gorillas have yet to allow a goal this season through their first ten matches, and have allowed just 47 shots in total. Ryann Caruth and Danae Hobson have four and three goals each and are tied for the team lead with nine points. In goal, Jocelyn Kramar has 23 saves along and has six solo shutouts while combining for the other four.

SCOUTING THE BRONCHOS
Central Oklahoma is 5-3-2 this season and have started 2-0-2 in the MIAA with draws against Missouri Western and Pittsburg State while defeating Northwest Missouri and Rogers State. The Bronchos have four players with multiple goals this season, while Sami Allen has two goals and four assists for a team-high eight points. UCO has also now allowed an opponent to score more than once in all but two matches and have earned three shutouts this season.

UP NEXT
Following the matches against Pittsburg State and Central Oklahoma, Emporia State will return to the ESU Pitch for matches against Newman on October 9, followed by the Turnpike Tussle against Washburn on October 11.
