October 2, 2026 - Emporia State soccer withstood 19 shots from fourth-ranked Pittsburg State on Friday, and saw out a scoreless draw despite playing down a player over the final 12 minutes.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Pittsburg State was the first side other generate a shots, as a fifth minute opportunity forced an Emporia State save by Terra Rybuck. The chances only continued to mount for the Gorillas throughout the first 45 minutes, as they outshot the Hornets 10-1 in the first half. Emporia State's lone shot came in the 29th minute, as Megan Kephart was able to generate a shot on target that was scooped up by Jocelyn Kramar in goal for the Gorillas.
Following the halftime break, the offensive pressure by Pittsburg State slowed a bit over the first 15 minutes of the second half, as they registered their first shot of the second 45 in the 60th minute. However, the Hornet defense began to face more shots as the half progressed, with Pittsburg State tallying five more opportunities with two forcing a save from Rybuck. The task got tougher for Emporia State with just over 12 minutes to play, a second yellow card prompted the Hornets to play the remaining minutes down one player. Despite the disadvantage, Emporia State held firm, with Rybuck picking up two more saves to help see out the draw.
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Emporia State tallied three shots with two attempts on target in the match, and faced 19 shots from the Gorillas. Terra Rybuck saved all ten shots on goal to pick up the shutout.

Emporia State's road tests will continue on Sunday, October 4 as they travel to Edmond, Okla. to take on Central Oklahoma. Kickoff between the Hornets and Bronchos is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
