LEADING OFF IN LUBBOCK  
Emporia State begins their season at the Lubbock Sports Classic, playing five games in three days at PlainsCapital Park in Lubbock, Texas.

A LOOK AT LAST YEAR 
Emporia State finished last season with a 34-26 overall record and 15-11 in MIAA play.  The Hornets were runner-ups in last season's MIAA Tournament.  After starting the season 1-6, Emporia State won 11 of their next 13 games and finished the season going 33-20 over their last 53 games. The Hornets were 11-5 at Trusler last year. 

THE COACHES 
April Huddleston-Rosales is 55-58 in her third year as the head coach at Emporia State. She became head coach after having serving as an assistant for seven seasons. She was a member of both the Hornets national runner-up teams in 2006 and 2008, and was named First Team All-MIAA at shortstop her senior year. 
Daren Hays has a 332-86-7 overall record and is in his eighth season as head coach at Lubbock Christian.
Leah Glasgow is 83-102 in her fifth season as head coach at Colorado School of Mines.
Tiala Tagaloa is in her fourth season as head coach at UT-Permian Basin.  She has a 30-128 career record
Mark Ryal is in his second season as head coach of Midwestern State.  He went 19-27 in his first season.
Kaley Scearcy begins her first season as head coach at Chadron State. 
ABOUT THE HORNETS 
Five position players return for the Hornets led by four year starters Danielle Sprinkle at first base and outfielder Caitlyn VanVleck.  Sprinkle hit .263 with four home runs and 32 RBI.  VanVleck hit .347 average with 33 runs scored and 17 stolen bases.

ABOUT LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN 
The Lady Chaps were 40-19 last year and were Heartland Tourney Champs. This is the first meeting between the two.

ABOUT COLORADO MINES
The Orediggers finished with a 32-15 record in 2017 and were runner-ups in the RMAC Tournament. The Hornets lead the all-time series 5-2.

ABOUT TEXAS-PERMIAN BASIN
The Falcons ended 2017 with a 10-46 record and a 5-25 record in the LSC.  This will be the first meeting between the two.

ABOUT MIDWESTERN STATE
The Mustangs were 19-27 overall, 10-20 in the LSC. The all-time series between the Hornets and the Mustangs is tied 5-5.

ABOUT CHADRON STATE
The Eagles ended the 2017 season with a 32-25 record and finished fourth in RMAC play with a 25-14 record.  This will be the first meeting between the two.

UP NEXT 
Emporia State will head to Bentonville, Ark. to play in the Ark-Monticello DII Classic on February 10 and 11.
