April 8, 2017 - The #17 Hornets fell 12-1 to #19 Central Missouri 12-1 in seven innings on Saturday afternoon. Emporia State is now 26-8 on the year, 15-5 in the MIAA.
The Mules started off hot, scoring four runs on four hits in the first inning to take a quick lead. They plated another two runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-0 lead before the Hornets plated their single run in the bottom of the fifth when Tate Kastens scored on a balk. Central Missouri scored another three runs in both the sixth and seventh inning to finish the game after seven.
Tanner Cairns fell to 4-1 on the season, pitching the first 5.0 innings, allowing six runs on eight hits. Cairns had three strikeouts and two walks. The Emporia State bullpen walked seven and had no strikeouts. Wade Hanna had two of the Hornets' four hits, going two for three against the Mules.
The last time Emporia State was run-ruled was in a 12-1 loss to Nebraska-Kearney on April 3, 2015.
