HORNET MEN FALL TO #18 NORTHWEST MISSOURI IN MIAA SEMIFINALS

Emporia State was within two games in two doubles matches

April 19, 2017-Although the final score was 5-0, as in most tennis matches played to a clinch the action on the court was much tighter as Emporia State lost to #18 Northwest Missouri in the semifinals of the MIAA Tennis Tournament in Lincoln, Neb.

Emporia State's #3 team of Lukas Winkler and Farhan Sadique lost 8-3 to Northwest's Josef Altmann and Aymeric Autones to start the match. The #1 team of Patrick Cameron and Matheus Mota for Emporia State then fell 8-6 to NWMSU's Mauro Tete and Youssef Sherif. The Hornets #2 doubles team of Gerard Pont and Oliver Dixon were tied at 7-7 before the Bearcats Srgi Fontcuberta and Romain Boissinot claimed the final two games for a 9-7 win.

Dixon fell 6-2, 6-2 in the first completed match at #2 singles to give Northwest a 4-0 lead.  Pont took the 39th ranked Boissinot to a tiebreaker in the second set before falling 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) at #1 singles to clinch the match for the Bearcats.

Due to the weather in Lincoln the matches were played indoors at the Dillon Tennis Center and only one other singles match was able to even take the court before the clinch.

Emporia State was ranked fifth in the NCAA Central Regional Rankings last week with four teams advancing to the regional tournament.
