May 12, 2026-The Emporia State men's and women's tennis teams combined for five Academic All-District as selected by College Sports Communicators.
Diego Calvo,
Anton Sarunic and
Alexis Mattenberger for the men's team along with
Sheriden Wichman and
Yuliya Klimova were all named CSC Academic All-District for their work in the classroom.
Calvo is a junior with a 3.75 GPA in business. He was an honorable mention All-MIAA selection in singles for the Hornets. He was 13-5 in singles action and went 11-7 in doubles play.
Sarunic has a 3.50 GPA in business as a graduate student. He earned Second-Team All-MIAA honors in singles. He was 3-2 in MIAA play in singles with a 5-7 overall record while going 9-6 in doubles.
Mattenberger is a sophomore with a 3.57 GPA in business. He was 5-8 in singles play with a 3-3 mark in doubles action.
Whichman has a 3.98 GPA in biology in her senior year. She was 9-10 in singles with a 4-1 mark at #1 and #2 while going 10-10 in doubles play.
Klimova is a sophomore with a 3.68 GPA in computer science. She was 9-10 in doubles and went 4-15 in the top three singles positions.
To be nominated, student-athletes ust be in the lineup for 75 percent of an institution's days of competition (regional competition such as ITAs and non-team scored events do not count).
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees for the women will be announced June 2 with the women to follow on June 3.
The Division II CSC Academic All-America® program is partially supported financially by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the program.
