COMPETING IN THE SOUTH
The Hornets continue tournament play at the ASU George McCorkle Challenge in San Angelo, Texas. Emporia State will face Angelo State, Adams State and Texas A&M International from Feb. 10-12.
 
LAST AT BAT
Emporia State went 1-5 at the Southeastern Oklahoma State Tournament to start their season. The Hornets had losses to Oklahoma Christian, #11 Arkansas Tech, East Central, Cameron and Southeastern Oklahoma. Emporia State picked up their first win against Southwestern Oklahoma with a walk off single from Hailey Cope.
 
THE?COACHES
April Huddleston is 22-37 in her second year as the head coach at Emporia State. She is the tenth head coach of the Hornet softball program. She is head coach after having served as an assistant with the Hornets for seven seasons. Huddleston was a member of both the Hornets national runner-up teams in 2006 and 2008, and was named First Team All-MIAA at shortstop her senior year.
Travis Scott has a 570-203-1 record as the head coach at Angelo State in his 13th season.
Dervin Taylor is in his ninth season as head coach at Adams State, leading the Grizzlies to two RMAC Tournament Championships.
Scott Libby is in his 11th season as head coach at Texas A&M International, earning co-Coach of the Year in the Heartland conference in 2010.

ABOUT THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 1-5 on the season after the Southeastern Oklahoma State Tournament.
Caitlin VanVleck leads the Hornets with a .467 batting average with seven hits, two RBI and two doubles. McKenna Davis has a .381 batting average with eight hits, two runs, four stolen bases and three RBI. Cassidy Berry has three stolen bases. Holly Hinkel has a .571 batting average with four hits and two runs.
Eryn Stockman has a 3.79 ERA and a 0-3 record in 19.0 innings pitched. She has 11 strikeouts and a .247 opponent batting average. Kaelah McMullin is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 2.0 innings, allowing only one hit with a .125 opponent batting average.
 
ABOUT ANGELO STATE
The Rambelles start the season 4-1 after competing in the Florida Tech Marriott First Pitch Classic. Angelo State leads the all-time series 10-6 over the Hornets.
 
ABOUT ADAMS STATE
The Grizzlies went 19-31 last season, 17-19 in the RMAC. Emporia State leads the all-time series 1-0 over Adams State after a 5-3 win on Feb. 2, 1998.
 
ABOUT TEXAS A&M INTERNATIONAL
The Dustdevils are 2-4 after competing in the Southeastern Oklahoma State Tournament. Emporia State leads the all-time series 6-3 over Texas A&M International.

HORNET HITTING
The Hornets have a .252 batting average after six games at the Southeastern Oklahoma State Tournament. Emporia State has 11 runs in 38 hits with seven doubles and ten stolen bases.
Caitlin VanVleck has a .467 batting average with seven hits, two doubles and two RBI. McKenna Davis is hitting .381 with eight hits, two runs, four stolen bases and three RBI. Sarah Glass has a .294 batting average with three RBI and a home run in five hits. Jaci Stephens has a 1.000 fielding percentage, starting in all six games at catcher.
 
EMPORIA STATE PITCHING
Emporia State pitching has a 6.44 ERA with 12 strikeouts and a .314 opponent batting average.
Eryn Stockman has 11 of the 12 strikeouts for the Hornets, pitching in 19.0 innings with a 0-3 record. She has a 3.79 ERA and only four walks.
Holly Hinkel has a 10.57 ERA with a record of 0-2. She has one strikeout in 15.1 innings pitched.
Kaelah McMullin has a 0.00 ERA and a 1-0 record in 2.0 inning pitched. She allowed only one hit and has a .125 opponent batting average.
 
TOURNAMENTS WITH HUDDLESTON
April Huddleston is 9-12 in tournament play as head coach at Emporia State. The Hornets went 4-1 at the St. Cloud Indoor Tournament last season and 2-2 at the Ark.-Monticello Tournament in 2016.
 
SUCCESS IN MAY
Emporia State has played in 12 NCAA Tournaments with a 35-25 (.583) overall record in NCAA Tournament play.  The Hornets are 20-13 in NCAA tournament elimination games all-time. Emporia State has played in ten of the last 14 MIAA Tournament championship games with eight titles. Since 2001 the Hornets are 49-16 (.753) in MIAA Tournament play with a 48-12 (.800) record over the last 13 tournaments.
 
HORNET HISTORY
Emporia State has finished as the NCAA Division II National Runners-up twice, in 2006 and 2008. The Hornets have qualified for NCAA Regional play in 11 of the last 13 years and 12 times in the last 21 seasons. The Hornets won the NAIA National Championship in 1983 and 1984 and won the AIAW National Championship in 1980.
The Hornets were MIAA regular season champions four straight years from 2005-08 and MIAA Tournament champions seven straight years running from 2004-10. Emporia State has claimed the regular season title (2005-08, 2010-12, 2014) and the tournament title (2004-10, 2012) eight times each in the 21st Century.
