February 5, 2017-Emporia State dropped both games on the final day of the Southeastern Oklahoma Regional Invitational on Sunday in Durant, Okla. The Hornets fell 4-2 to Cameron and 12-5 to host Southeastern Oklahoma.
Cameron Game
The Hornets scored first in the days opening game as Danielle Sprinkle drove in McKenna Davis with a first inning ground out. The Aggies answered with a lead off home run in the bottom of the first. Cameron took the lead for good with a three run third inning. Davis pulled the Hornets within 4-2 when she drove in Katie Yoakum with a single in the top of the fifth. Caitlin VanVleck doubled with one out in the top of the seventh to bring the tying run to the plate, but the Hornets could not convert in the 4-2 loss.
Cassidy Berry was two for four for the Hornets while Davis went one for three with a run scored and an RBI. Eryn Stockman took the loss, allowing four runs on six hits with three walks and one strikeout in 6.0 innings.
Southeastern Okla. Game
The Savage Storm scored six runs in the first two innings on the way to a 12-5 win. The Hornets got on the board with an unearned run when Holly Hinkel reached on an error and came home on McKenna Davis' ground out. Emporia State got back in the game with a four run fourth inning. Danielle Sprinkle started things with a single. With one out, Sarah Glass got a second chance when a foul ball was dropped and she followed that with a two run home run. Hinkel singled and scored on a VanVleck double. Davis plated VanVleck with a single to pull the Hornets within 6-5. Southeastern answered with a five run bottom of fifth inning take an 11-5 lead. They would add another run in the bottom of the sixth for the final 12-5 score.
Hinkel was two for three with two runs at the plate and took the loss in the circle allowing 12 runs, ten of them earned on 16 hits with five walks and no strikeouts. Davis and Glass each had two RBI while VanVleck went one for two with a run and an RBI.
The Hornets will travel to San Angelo, Texas next weekend for six games in the Angelo State George McCorkle Challenge on Friday through Sunday.
