HORNET SOFTBALL SPLITS DAY ONE AT ASU GEORGE MCCORKLE CHALLENGE

Emporia State loses to Angelo State and shuts out Adams State

February 10, 2017 - The Hornet softball team split day one of the ASU George McCorkle Challenge, falling 7-0 to Angelo State in game one and shutting out Adams State 8-0 in game two.

ANGELO STATE
After the first two innings were scoreless between the two teams, Angelo State plated two in the bottom of the third. The Rambelles scored another five runs in the fifth inning to win 7-0 over the Hornets. Emporia State had just four hits and left five on base. Jacie Stephens hit two for three against Angelo State. Eryn Stockman pitched 5.2 innings with three strike outs and three walk, allowing nine hits and seven runs.

ADAMS STATE
Emporia State scored in the first inning against Adams State to go up 1-0 early. McKenna Davis went to work, singling down the left field line, advancing to second and stealing third to get in scoring position. Katie Yoakum sac flied to bring Davis in for the run in the first. The Hornets wouldn't score again until the fourth inning when Sarah Glass would sac bunt to bring Carlie McComb across the plate, Emporia State leading 2-0. The Hornets had two more runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth. Glass doubled down the left line in the sixth, then stole third to put herself in scoring position with one out to start the rally. Stephens had a two run home run to left field to go up 6-0 Adams State. Yoakum had a two run double to center field to end the game 8-0. Danielle Sprinkle hit two for two against Adams State, the only Hornet with multiple hits. Yoakum had four RBI while Davis and Annelise Rockley had two runs each. Holly Hinkel pitched all 6.0 innings, allowing just two hits with no walks and two strike outs.

Emporia State will face Texas A&M International at 10:30 a.m. and Angelo State at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11 in day two of the ASU George McCorkle Challenge.
