February 3, 2017-Seth Holman threw 6.0 scoreless innings and Tyler Buss finished with 3,0 scoreless innings of his own as #30 Emporia State defeated Colorado State-Pueblo 8-0 on Friday afternoon in Pueblo.
The Hornets got on the board in the first when Mason Brown doubled in Levi Ashmore with one out. Tyler Sanagorski drove in Brown to give the Hornets a 2-0 lead after a half inning.
Brown then led off the third inning with a solo homer to make it 3-0.Sanagorski followed with a triple and came home on Daniel Lamunyon's sac fly for a 4-0 Hornet advantage.
Emporia State went up 5-0 as Brown picked up his third RBI of the game when he singled in Ryan McBroom in the fourth inning. The Thunderwolves mounted their first threat in the bottom of the fourth when they got runners on second and third before Holman enticed a fly out to end the threat.
Wade Hanna singled in Ashmore to start a three run sixth inning for the Hornets. Lamunyon would finish the scoring with a two RBI single that scored Hanna and Brown to give the Hornets an 8-0 lead going to the bottom of the sixth. CSU-Pueblo got two runners on in the bottom of the inning before Holman got a ground ball to end the inning.
Buss started the seventh and retired the first eight batters he faced until he gave up a two single in the ninth before ending the game with a strikeout.
Brown went four for four with three runs and three RBI in his Hornet debut. Lamunyon also had three RBI while Ashmore scored two runs.
Holman gave up three hits in 6.0 shutout innings with four strike outs for the win. Buss struckout five of the ten batters he faced in 3.0 innings as he picked up his first save.
The two teams will hook up again on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. MT/2:00 p.m. CT in Pueblo, Colo.
