November 10, 2017- Emporia State volleyball defeated Pittsburg State 3-1 on Friday. The Hornets advance to 7-11 in the MIAA with the win.
In a match that saw 22 tie scores and 12 lead changes the Hornets came out with a 3-1 win over the Gorillas. In set one the Hornets took control only allowing three tie scores and two lead changes before taking the victory 25-19. In set two the Gorillas battled back with 13 tie scores and nine lead changes to take set two 25-21 over the Hornets. In set three the Hornets took control again, never trailing in the set and only allowing five tie scores. The Hornets won set three 25-23. The Gorillas took the lead early in set four, but the Hornets tied the score and took the lead for the remainder of the set to finish 25-16 and 3-1 in the match.
The Hornets were led in hitting by Tatum Graves with 14 kills on .250 hitting percentage followed by Jamie Hauptman with 13 and Jordan Evans and Yuchen Du with 10 each. Emma Dixon led the Hornets with 22 assists followed by Du with 18 and joined in double digits by Allie Maloney with 12. Du led all players with 18 digs followed by Maloney with 12, Julia Joseph with 11 and joined in double digits, Dixon with 10.
Double Doubles
The Hornets had three players record a double double or better in the match. Emma Dixon recorded 22 assists and ten digs while Allie Maloney had 12 assists and 12 digs.
Triple Double
Yuchen Du recorded her seventh triple double with her ten kills, 18 assists and 18 digs on the night. She is ranked third in the nation with seven triple doubles.
The Hornets will be back in action on November 14 as they face the #1 seed in the MIAA tournament.
