November 14, 2017- Emporia State volleyball fell in straight sets to top seeded Nebraska Kearney in the first round of the MIAA Tournament. The loss ends the Hornets season at 15-17, 6-12 in the MIAA.
In the first round match the top seeded Lopers took control early and the Hornets were unable to overcome the deficit. The Lopers took set one 25-13 over the Hornets. The Hornets were able to battle in set two to make it a better set with a final score of 25-16. The Lopers took control is set three and did not allow the Hornets to recover from the deficit winning 25-10 and taking the match 3-0.
The Hornets were led by Jordan Evans with 9 kills followed by Jamie Hauptman with six. Yuchen Du led the Hornets with 15 assists while Emma Dixon added 9. Allie Maloney led all players with 14 digs followed by Julia Joseph with 8 for the Hornets.
The Hornets finish their season with an overall record of 15-17, 6-12 in the MIAA and their fifth trip to the MIAA Tournament in six seasons that the MIAA has held the tournament.
