October 7, 2017- Emporia State volleyball won in straight sets over Pittsburg State on Saturday (25-20, 25-22, 25-13). The Hornets advance to 11-9 on the season, 3-4 in the MIAA.
In the opening set there were five tie scores and only one lead change as the Hornets were able to hold off the Gorillas and achieve a 25-20 victory in the set. Set two had six tie scores and two lead changes as the Hornets again had to fight off the Gorillas for a 25-22 win. In the third and final set the Hornets were able to maintain the lead through the entire set to a 25-13 victory after seeing only two tie scores in the set.
The Hornets were led by Yuchen Du with 14 kills on .458 hitting percentage followed by Jamie Hauptman with 7 and Karly Patton with 6. Emma Dixon led all players with 19 assists while Du followed with 16. Allie Maloney led all players with 9 digs on the match followed by Dixon with 8 and Du with 7.
The Hornets will be back in action Friday, October 13 as they take on Missouri Southern in William L. White Auditorium.
