October 13, 2017- Emporia State volleyball won in four sets over Missouri Southern on Friday (25-19, 25-11, 19-25, 25-23). The Hornets advance to 12-9 on the season, 4-4 in the MIAA.
In a match that saw 11 tie scores and six lead changes through four sets, the Hornets emerged victorious. Set one saw six tie scores and two lead changes as the Hornets were able to finish the set with a 25-23 win. In set two, the Hornets took control with an 8-0 run after trailing 2-4 early in the set then cruised to a 25-11 win. The Lions took control early in set three and the Hornets were unable to overcome the deficit, falling 25-19. The Hornets were able to recover from a slow third set to finish the match with a 25-23 win in set four.
The Hornets were led in hitting by Tatum Graves with 15 kills on .273 hitting percentage followed by Taylor Otting with 12 and Yuchen Du with 11. Du and Emma Dixon led the Hornets with 23 assists each. Allie Maloney and Du each recorded 15 digs to lead the Hornets while Julia Joseph joined them in double digits with 11.
Du recorded her sixth triple double of the season with her 11 kills, 23 assists and 15 digs. She is tied for second in the NCAA in triple doubles on the season.
The Hornets are back in action Friday October 20 as they travel to St. Joseph, Mo. to take on Missouri Western.
