October 14, 2017- Emporia State volleyball finished their home stand with a 3-1 win over Southwest Baptist. The Hornets advance to 13-9, 5-4 in the MIAA.
In the opening set of the match there were four tie scores and four lead changes as the Hornets fell to the Bearcats 25-22. The Hornets recovered from a slow set one to take control in set two with a 25-7 victory to tie the match. Set three saw one tie score and one lead change early in the set as the Hornets held off the Bearcats for a 25-14 win. The Hornets controlled the fourth and final set of the match from the beginning, starting the set with an 8-0 run and never leading by less than seven in the set.
The Hornets were led in hitting by Tatum Graves with 16 kills on .600 hitting percentage followed by Yuchen Du with 9 and Jamie Hauptman with 8. Emma Dixon led all players with 27 assists while Du added 17 for the Hornets. Allie Maloney led all players with 17 digs followed by Julia Joseph with 12 and Dixon with 11. Emma Dixon completed a double double with her 27 assists and 11 digs in the match.
The Hornets will be back in action on Friday October 20 as they travel to St. Joseph, Mo. to take on Missouri Western.
