FEBRUARY BLOSSOMS
The Hornets travel to Bentonville, Arkansas to take part in the 8-State Classic hosted by Ark.-Monticello. This is the fourth straight year Emporia State has taken part in the 32 team tournament.
LAST AT BAT
The Hornets went 2-4 last weekend at the Southeastern Regional Invitational in Durant, Okla. The Hornets defeated the host Savage Storm 12-6 and Southwestern Oklahoma State 9-2. Emporia fell twice to 2015 NCAA Tournament team Henderson State, 3-1 and 1-0 and also lost to Oklahoma Christian 18-3.
ABOUT THE HORNETS
Emporia State went 2-4 at the Southeastern Regional Invitational to open the season. Sarah Glass hit .450 with two home runs, three RBI and four runs scored to lead the Hornet offense. Erica Harper had a team high five RBI with a home run, four runs scored and a .316 average. Katie Yoakum led Emporia Stae with five runs scored while batting .294 on the weekend. Danielle Sprinkle also hit .316 with a homer and three RBI. Eryn Stockman is 1-2 in the circle with a 2.70 ERA and 21 strikeouts. Holly Hinkel had a win and struckout seven in 10.1 innings.
THE COACH
April Huddleston is 2-4 in her first year as the head coach at Emporia State. She is the tenth head coach of the Hornet softball program. She steps in as head coach for her first year having served as an assistant with the Hornets for seven seasons. Huddleston was a member of both the Hornets national runner-up teams in 2006 and 2009, and was named First Team All-MIAA at shortstop her senior year.
AT THE 8-STATE
This is the fourth straight year Emporia State has taken part in the 8-State Classic. The Hornets are 14-2 in the last three trips.
KNOW THE FOE
Emporia State will be taking on Henderson State, Ouachita Baptist, Arkansas Tech, East Central (Okla.), Wayne State (Neb.) and Ark. Monticello over three days. It will be the third meeting with Henderson State and second with Ark. Tech this season. The Hornets will only play two games against each MIAA opponent this season.
