TURNPIKE TUSSLE/SUNFLOWER SHOWDOWN
The Emporia State soccer team makes their home debut on Friday night on the EHS Pitch against Washburn in the Turnpike Tussle.  The Hornets will then travel to western Kansas to take on Ft. Hays State on Sunday.

LAST TIME OUT
Emporia State battled #13 Winona State to a scoreless tie for the first 60 minutes, but the Warriors scored a flurry of four goals in ten minutes to take a 4-0 win on Sunday in Winona, Minn.  It is the first loss of the season for the Hornets. The Warriors outshot the Hornets 21-6 in the match with 11 of the shots coming in the final 30 minutes of action.  Yadira Rivera had ten saves, including two on penalty kicks, in the match. Winona State got on the board at the 60:23 mark on a header by Taylor Zehren. Kenzie Rose headed in a corner kick at the 63:10 mark for a 2-0 lead.  Darian Molter scored the first of her two goals on a penalty kick at the 69:07 mark and followed with a rebound off another PK at the 70:00 mark for the 4-0 lead.

THE COACHES
Bryan Sailer is 19-30-10 in his fourth year at Emporia State after a break through year in 2013 in which he led the Hornets to just the second winning record in the 13 year history of the program. He is 6-4-1 over his last 11 matches dating back to last year. He is 3-1-1 against Washburn and 0-2-2 against Ft. Hays State.
Terry Collins is 90-100-31 going into Wednesday night's match at Newman in his 12th season at Washburn. He is 13-6-2 against Emporia State.
Craig Shaw is 29-28-5 in his fourth year at Ft. Hays State and 69-47-7 in seven years as a head coach. He is 2-0-2 against Emporia State.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 3-1 on the season with their lone loss at #13 Winona State. The Hornets have had eight people score a goal while the eighth person didn't score a goal until the 16th game last season. Jordan Foutch is the leading scorer for the Hornets with two goals and an assist on the season while Grace Linton has scored two goals.

SCOUTING THE ICHABODS
Washburn is 0-3-0 on the season entering Wednesday night's match at Newman. The Ichabods have been outscored 5-1 in their first three matches.

LAST TIME AGAINST WASHBURN
Emporia State defeated Washburn 1-0 in Topeka to sweep the Turnpike Tussle. Jordan Foutch scored off a deflected corner kick with less than eight minutes left in the match for the game winner. The Hornets had a 9-4 advanatge in corner kicks. Keeper Yadira Rivera had four saves in her seventh shutout of the season.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Ft. Hays State is 2-2-0 on the season entering their match with Neb.-Kearney on Friday. They have scored four goals in their two wins and been held to single scores in the two losses. Kelsey Steffens is their leading scorer with three goals and an assist while Jordan Hester and Jordan Shaw have each scored three goals.

LAST TIME AGAINST FT. HAYS STATE
The Hornets out shot by the Tigers 17-12 but had a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal in a 0-0 tie at the EHS Pitch. The wind was a factor for both teams as kicks into the wind were knocked down and players struggled to run down lead passes with the wind. Hornet keeper Yadira Rivera made three saves to register her sixth shutout of the season.

SERIES HISTORIES
This will be the 22nd soccer edition of the Turnpike Tussle. Washburn leads 13-6-2, but Emporia State has won three of the last five matches with one tie. 
This will be the fifth meeting between Emporia State and Ft. Hays State with the Tigers leading 2-0-2.

UP NEXT
The Hornets return home on Friday, September 26 to take on Central Missouri. Kick-off against the Jennies is set for 7 p.m. at the EHS Pitch.
