March 9, 2014-The #22 Emporia State softball team opened MIAA play with a double header sweep of Northwest Missouri on Sunday at the Trusler Sports Complex.  The Hornets won game one 5-3 in a walk-off while taking a 6-0 shut out in the second game.

The Bearcats took a 3-0 lead in the matinee with a single run in the second and two in the third.  Emporia State tied it on a two run double by Taylor Zordel who was then driven in by a double from Taylor Reichard.  With two outs in the bottom of the seventh Tricia Vogel was hit by a pitch and Jessica Gragg hit a walk-off two run homer for the win.  It was her second walk off homer in the last five games third time she has delivered the game winning RBI in the Hornets last at bat.

The Hornets scored two in the first on an RBI double from Stephanie Goodwin and a single from Gragg and that was more than enough to hold up in the nightcap.  Emporia State added three runs in the third and another one on a Zordel RBI double in the fourth as Eryn Stockman earned her first career shutout.

Emporia State is back in action on Monday when they play host to Missouri Western.  First pitch from Turnbull Field at the Trusler Sports Complex is set for 2:00 p.m.
