Hornets drop matinee and come from behind in nightcap

March 6, 2014-Emporia State's Jessica Gragg delivered a two RBI double in the top of the seventh to give the #21 Hornets a 13-12 win and gain a split at Oklahoma Christian on Thursday afternoon.  Emporia State lost the first game 8-4.

In the matinee Emporia State scored two in the top of the first on a Gragg RBI single and an unearned run.  Oklahoma Christian put a six on the board in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead for good.  The Hornets got single runs in the fifth and sixth but left the bases loaded in the fifth and two on in the sixth. Kaitlyn Caston took the loss, allowing eight runs on12 hits with six walks.

The second game was a slugfest with the lead changing hands five times before Gragg delivered the game winner in the top of the seventh. The Hornets got home runs from Stephanie Goodwin and Jacie Stephens along with doubles from Taylor Zordel and Gragg. Caston pitched the final 2.1 innings to get the win, allowing two runs on two hits.

Emporia State is scheduled to open MIAA play on Saturday against Missouri Western.  First pitch from Turnbull Field in the Trusler Sports Complex is set for 12:00 p.m.
