February 21, 2014-The #25 Emporia State softball team is in St. Cloud, Minn. this weekend for the Kelli Laas Invite. The Hornets will play four games against NSIC teams in key early season regional match-ups.
The Hornets open against the host Huskies of St. Cloud State on Friday at 11:00 a.m. On Saturday Emporia State will play Wayne State (Neb.) at 4:00 p.m. and end the day against Concordia-St. Paul at 8:00 p.m. Sunday will see a top 25 matchup between the Hornets and #8 Augustana at 11:00 a.m. Sunday's game is one of the NFCA's "Featured Five" games of the week.
Emporia State is 7-2 on the year. Senior first baseman Tricia Vogel is batting .345 with eight RBI in nine games. Junior newcomer Kaitlyn Caston is 5-1 with a 1.89 ERA.
