February 14, 2014-The Emporia State softball team will take their 2-1 record on the road this weekend to the 8-State Classic hosted by Ark.-Monticello in Bentonville, Ark. The Hornets will play six games in three days with four of the games being key regional match-ups.
Emporia State will open against defending national champion and fellow MIAA member #1 Central Oklahoma in a non-league contest. The Hornets were the last team to defeat the Bronchos last season, taking a 1-0 decision in the MIAA tournament semifinals. They will play Minnesota State-Mankato in their second game on Friday.
The Hornets will take on Henderson State and Southwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday in regional action. On Sunday Emporia State will step out of the region for games against UMSL and Quincy.
Emporia State opened the season going 2-1 at the Tarleton State Invitational. They defeated Northwestern Oklahoma State 5-2 and Harding 5-1 around a 10-2 loss to Southern Nazarene. Kaitlyn Caston won both games and was named the AstroTurf/MIAA Pitcher of the Week. Laura Seeman was also named to the All-tournament team after hitting .444 with a home run and three RBI in three games.
