September 27, 2013-Emporia State picked up their third straight win with a 1-0 victory over Southwest Baptist on Friday night at the EHS Pitch. It's the first time in school history the Hornets have won three straight shutouts.
Yadira Rivera extended her shut string to 285:46 as she turned away seven shots on goal by Southwest Baptist before Elizabeth High scored with 4:38 left in regulation to give the Hornets the win. High scored from about ten yards out on a cross pass from Tommi Bouknight.
With the win Emporia State improves to 5-3-0 on the year and 2-0-0 in the MIAA. They play host to #14 Central Missouri on Sunday. It will be the second nationally ranked team Emporia State has played this year. The Hornets defeated then #19 Regis 2-1 in double overtime on Sept. 13 in Denver. Kick-off from the EHS Pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
NOTES:
Rivera is 47:48 away from Erin Allen's school record of 331:34 scoreless minutes.
This is the first three game winning streak for Emporia State since defeating Washburn, Northwest Missouri and then Missouri-Rolla from Oct. 6-15, 2004.
Emporia State's 5-3-0 record is the first time the Hornets have been above .500 with at least eight games played in a season since being 5-1-2 to start the 2005 season.
