October 11, 2026 - Emporia State soccer continued their trend of tightly contested Turnpike Tussles with Washburn as the Hornets and Ichabods played to a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Emporia State was faced with the more adverse attacking option over the first 45 minutes, as the Hornets faced directly into the wind, while #18 Washburn was able to apply offensive pressure. The visiting Ichabods tallied four shots over the first 16 minutes, with two forcing a save from Terra Rybuck.
The Hornets went without a shot until the 18th minute, where they immediately capitalized with a goal from Ella Favot to put Emporia State ahead 1-0. However, Washburn would not allow the lead to last for long, as they needed just 30 seconds to answer back with a goal of their own to tie the match.
Emporia State withstood a strong attacking push by Washburn over the remainder of the first half to send the game into the halftime break with the score knotted at 1-1.
Following the break, Emporia State gained the wind advantage and immediately pushed forward in attack. The first threatening chance for the Hornets came in the 51st minute, as Sammy Quiroz's corner deflected off the crossbar. Favot added another opportunity, as a shot near the top of the frame was saved by Everley in goal for the Ichabods in the 65th minute.
Neither team was able to pull ahead, with Washburn nearly finding a late breakthrough on loose ball chances in the Emporia State box, but the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Emporia State had six shots in the match as opposed to eight for the Ichabods.
