September 10, 2013-The Emporia State women's soccer team lost their home opener by a 2-1 score Tuesday afternoon at the Emporia HS pitch.
Emily Kline scored the game-winning goal for Drury off an assist from Ashley Morefield at the 77:52 mark. Â
Drury (2-1) opened the scoring with a penalty kick goal in the 30th minute by Mariah Gove.
The Hornets (1-2) tied the game at one goal apiece with a Hannah Carlson penalty kick 11 minutes into the second half.
The Panthers out shot the Hornets 19-9 and nine to five in shots on goal, however Emporia State had six corner kicks to just three for Drury. Goalkeeper Yadira Rivera had seven saves for the Hornets.
Emporia State will travel to Denver, Colo. this weekend for two matches. They open against Regis on September 13 at 3:30 p.m. (CT) followed by a Sunday match with Metro State.
