Hornets gets rematch with Central Oklahoma on Sunday

May 4, 2013-After falling 2-1 in the seventh inning to Central Oklahloma in the first game of the day, Emporia State staved off elimination in two games to earn a rematch with the Bronchos.

Central Oklahoma 2, Emporia State 1
Central Oklahoma scratched across a run with two outs in the bottom of the seven to pull out the 2-1 victory in the first game of the day.

For the Bronchos Ally Dziadula was two for four and drove in the games winning run. Nicole Workman also drove in a run while Hayley Hudson scored the game winner. In the circle Kalynn Schrock struck out seven allowing just six baserunners in the win.

For the Hornets Taylor Zordel went two for three and Cacy Williams stole home to score Emporia State's only run. In the circle Karley Schmelzer struck out seven and allowed just one earned run.

Emporia State 6, Truman 2
Emporia State got two runs in the second inning as they remained alive with a 6-2 victory over Truman in their second game.

For the Hornets Cacy Williams hit her 10th home run of the season and drove in three runs. Amanda Self went three for three with a two runs scored and two driven in. In the circle Karley Schmelzer struck out nine to earn the victory.

For the Bulldogs Kristin Grossman hit her 11th home run on a solo shot. Cate Simon was two for two while Kesley Bollman added an RBI.

Emporia State 7, Missouri Western 6
Emporia State batted around in the fifth inning as they plated seven runs to come from behind and earn a 7-6 victory.

For the Hornets Taylor Reichard had a home run and drove in two runs. Taylor Zordel also hit a two run-run home run in the ballgame. Amanda Self went two for four and scored a run while Andrea Piezuch added two RBI. In the circle Karley Schmelzer worked seven inning striking out ten to pick up her second straight win of the day.

For the Griffons Maegan Roemmich went four for four scoring three runs and also driving in three. Keri Lorbert had two RBI on the evening as well.


The Hornets will play Central Oklahoma in the losers bracket championship.  The winner will need to win two games from Ft. Hays State to secure the championship.
