April 5, 2013-Emporia State got a two out walk off win in the bottom of the seventh to complete a sweep of Pittsburg State at the Trusler Sports Complex on Friday.  The Hornets won game one 6-1 and took a 3-2 victory in the night cap.

Emporia State trailed 1-0 after half an inning in game one and stranded two runners in the bottom of the frame.  The Hornets got on the board with an unearned run in the bottom of the second.  Cacy Williams led off with a single and stole second. She came home when Taylor Zordel reached on a ground ball off the short stop's glove.

The Hornets took the lead for good with two runs in the third as the first four batters reached base.  Stephanie Goodwin walked and Amanda Self followed with a walk.  Tricia Vogel and Williams followed with RBI singles to give Emporia State a 3-1 lead. Vogel hit a sac fly to score Zordel in the fourth.

Zordel then led off the sixth with a single. Andrea Piezuch single to right field and came all the way around when the ball was misplayed to give Emporia State a 6-1 lead.

Karley Schmelzer went the distance to pick up her league leading 16th win.  She allowed one run on four hits with eight strike outs and three walks.  Zordel was three for four at the plate with two runs scored.  Williams was two for four with a run scored and an RBI while Vogel drove in two runs.

The Gorillas took the lead in the second game as well.  They led off the top of the second with singles from Tiffany Brown and Samantha Grove. Brown scored from second when McKenzie Rynard reached on an error by Taylor Reichard when she couldn't hold onto the ball at first on a sac bunt attempt. Catie Cummins RBI single gave Pitt State a 2-0 lead. Williams cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning with a lead off home run.

Lauren Sharp made it to the seventh and was relieved by Schmelzer after going to 3-1 on the lead off batter.  Schmelzer coaxed a ground out on her first pitch and retired the final two batters to send the Hornets into the bottom of the seventh trailing by a run.

Williams led off with a double to left center.  She was sacrificed to third by Katie Huffman and scored on Reichard's bunt single to tie the score.  Jessica Brewer followed with a single just into the grass to put runners at first and second.  Zordel reached on a fielder's choice to put runners at the corners.  With two outs, Piezuch reached safely as Devon McCreath's throw pulled the first baseman off the bag and Reichard scored for the 3-2 win.

Williams led the offense again, going two for three with two runs, an RBI, a double and a home run.  Reichard was one for three with a run and an RBI while Goodwin and Self each had two hits.  Schmelzer's perfect seventh earned her an MIAA leading 17th win on the season.

The Hornets are back in action on Saturday when they take on Missouri Southern. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
