April 2, 2013-Emporia State gained a split of a double header at Central Missouri on Tuesday. The Hornets pushed their overall winning streak to seven games with a 2-0 win the matinee before seeing a 13 game winning streak over the Jennies snapped in a 6-2 loss in the night cap.
Andrea Piezuch and Stephanie Goodwin led off the fourth inning with singles for the Hornets. With one out Tricia Vogel doubled down the left field line to give Emporia State a 2-0 lead. That was enough as Karley Schmelzer tossed her sixth shut out of the season by scattering eight hits over 7.0 innings.
Central Missouri scored single runs in the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead in the night cap. Vogel drove in Piezuch with one out in the top of the third to cut the lead in half, but the Hornets would leave the bases loaded to end the inning. Taylor Reichard led off the fourth with a walk and stole second. She went to third on Jessica Brewer's sac bunt and scored on a squeeze sac bunt from Taylor Zordel. The Jennies retook the lead with a bases loaded double by Braylyn Bivens in the bottom of the fourth for a 5-2 lead. Central Missouri added a run in the sixth for the final score of 6-2.
Vogel went four for seven with three RBI in the double header. Zordel, who was named the MIAA Hitter of the Week earlier in the day, and Piezuch both went two for six on the day.
The Hornets return to Trusler on Friday to start a six game home stand. First pitch against Pittsburg State is set for 3 p.m.
