HORNETS HAVE BAGS PACKED FOR MISSOURI

Emporia State opens a stretch of four road matches against Northwest Missouri on Friday October 11. Three of the four road matches will take place in the "Show Me" state. The Hornets will also play Missouri Western this weekend and then Lindenwood before competing once again in Kansas in a October 23, match at Washburn.

LAST TIME OUT

Emporia State battled in a scoreless double overtime tie against the Fort Hays State Tigers in a match played with gusty winds. Hornets goal keeper Yadira Rivera made three saves against the Tigers to account for her sixth shutout of the season. 

THE COACHES

Bryan Sailer is 12-25-9 in his third season at Emporia State and ranks No. 2 on the Hornets all time win list for Women's Soccer coaches. Prior to coming to ESU he led Barton County Community College to a 59-23-2 overall record in four seasons. He led them to the KJCAA Championships during the 2008 season and was named Jayhawk Conference Coach of the Year after guiding Barton to an 18-4 record. He is 0-2-0 against the Bearcats.

Tracy Hoza enters her 11th season has head coach at Northwest Missouri. She currently has a coaching record of 72-103-25 at NWMSU. She is 12-5-2 against the Hornets.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS

The Hornets are 5-4-2 after a scoreless double overtime tie versus the Fort Hays State Tigers.The Hornets are 1-0-1 against nationally ranked teams this season. Emporia State upset #19 Regis 2-1 in double overtime earlier in the season. The Hornets then played #5 ranked Central Missouri to a 0-0 tie in double overtime. The win over Regis was the first victory over a nationally ranked team in the history of the program. Shannon Thomas leads the team in shots with 20. Tommi Bouknight leads the team in shots on goal with 15.

KNOW THE FOE

The Beacats are 3-6-1 overall and 1-3-0 in the MIAA. Senior Anna Calgaard leads the team with 10 points on four goals and two assists. The Bearcats lead the all-time series against Emporia State 14-7-2.

LAST TIME VS. NORTHWEST MISSOURI

Taylor Sellars scored a goal in the 80th minute to lead the Bearcats to a 1-0 win on October 5, 2012. Mallory Walden had three shots in the loss for the Hornets.

IN THE MIAA

Yadira Rivera leads the MIAA in goals against average, save percentage and saves per game. She is tied for first in the conference in total saves and shutouts. The Hornets are fourth in the MIAA with their 2-1-2 conference mark.
