ESU Game Notes
ON THE ROAD
The #14 Hornets will end the regular season with six non-conference road games before the MIAA Tournament. The trip starts this weekend at Northeastern State and #3 Central Oklahoma.
LAST AT BAT
Emporia State's Jennifer Heerey made sure her Senior Day was a memorable one as she had the game ending hits in both games and got the win in the circle in the nightcap as the #16 Hornets swept Lincoln at the Trusler Sports Complex. ESU won both games in six innings, the first 10-2 and the second 9-1. Tricia Vogel went two for four with two RBI, three runs scored and her sixth home run while Goodwin was two for three with three RBI and a run scored in the first game. Karley Schmelzer gave up two runs on four hits in 4.0 innings with eight strike outs to earn her 13th win. Lauren Sharp worked the final 2.0 innings and allowed only one hit. In game two Heerey tossed a two hitter with eight strike outs in 6.0 innings and went one for three with an RBI at the plate. Andrea Piezuch finished the game three for four with three RBI and two runs scored. With the wins, ESU became the first team in history to go 20-0 in the MIAA.
THE?COACHES
Julie LeMaire is 31-7 in her first season at Emporia State and is 123-84 in her fourth season as a head coach. She came to ESU from Ft. Hays State and took the Tigers to the MIAA Tournament Championship game last season. This is her first meeting with NSU while she is 3-2 against UCO after going 3-0 against the Bronchos while at FHSU.
Dee Gerlach is 202-213-1 in her tenth season at Northeastern State. She is 3-4 against ESU.
Ginny Stidham is 414-272-2 in her 15th year at UCO. She is 8-12 against ESU.
SCOUTING NORTHEASTERN ST.
The Riverhawks are 19-21 this season, 11-12 against MIAA competition. Cayce Coleman is batting .333 with 20 RBI and is 9-6 with a 1.54 ERA in the circle.
SERIES VS. THE RIVERHAWKS
ESU leads the all-time series 19-14 and won two meetings in Emporia last year.
LAST TIME AGAINST NSU
Emporia State scored two come from behind wins against Northeastern State at Trusler last year. ESU won the first game 3-1 and the nightcap 5-4 in eight innings. Abby Hughes bases loaded single in the bottom of the eighth was the game winner for the Hornets in game two.
SCOUTING CENTRAL OKLA.
The Bronchos are 36-3 on the season, have won 34 straight games and have gone 20-1 against MIAA competition this season. Kaycee Edwards is batting .478 with 16 homers and 67 RBI while Rachael Steverson is 19-2 with a 2.85 ERA.
SERIES VS. BRONCHOS
The Hornets lead the all-time series 18-11. ESU defeated UCO 4-3 in the 2006 Division II World Series on the way to a national runner-up finish for the Hornets.
LAST TIME AGAINST UCO
Three home runs accounted for five of the nine runs scored, but a sac fly by the Bronchos in the sixth was the difference in a 5-4 loss by the Hornets. Amanda Self hit a two run homer in the fifth to tie the game at 4-4 but UCO able to push a run across in the sixth thanks to a bases loaded sac fly. Jennifer Heerey allowed five runs on seven hits with three strikeouts.

ESU ends the regular season on April 23 with a double header at Newman. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
